Linksys Privacy GUI: An Interface for Smart Router Management

In a bold design initiative, Linksys replaced an outdated, buggy app with a lightning fast, fully responsive, browser-based app.

Problems

Consistent customer feedback that the app was slow and buggy

Customers expressed frustration over "being forced to download an app" to use our product

Privacy was becoming an increasing concern for consumers.
A remote/cloud-based network management tool posed security risks.

Management was built across 3 separate apps: mobile iOS and Android versions plus a separate web-based interface

Solution

Building a brand new interface contained locally in the hardware. Accessible through any device with a browser. Built with usability and responsive best practices via Google's M3 design system.

UX: Exploring Navigation, Layout, & Hierarchy

Providing UX specs and direction for UI contractor

Our objective was to ship a MVP, laying the foundation for design and development. With years of experience working at the company, there was a wealth of knowledge to draw a fresh start.

Dashboard

The dashboard's intention is to provide a simple snapshot of your network's internet and hardware status.

Early concepts used elements of the M3 design system.

Iterations

Hardware Connectivity

"Nodes" are the modular units expanding network coverage. Users need to monitor signal strength and what devices are connected where.

The Linksys Privacy GUI was shipped in ~5 months. Our team was poised with a solid foundation to continue building on basic router management features.
